Summer Session

Registration for 2008 summer sessions is now open. There is a variety of courses offered through the ASU Herberger College School of Theatre and Film. You may choose from a number of five-week or eight week sessions.
 
If you are a Herberger College student and have questions about what to take, you may make an appointment with a Herberger College advisor. Make an appointment now. Otherwise, check with your advisor from your ASU program.

The classes listed below serve as a guide to summer class options. Most classes have specific enrollment requirement. Please consult the ASU Schedule of Classes for the most updated information. Some classes are offered online. In the schedule of classes, you need to select online as the location to view online courses or select all campuses to view all of your options.

FMP 201: Film: The Creative Process I
Explore the history, elements and techniques of theatrical film: cinematography, directing, acting, scriptwriting, producing, and criticism. (Internet - General Studies HU)

THE 100: Introduction to Theatre
A fun introduction to theatre production spanning from the Greeks to contemporary theatre and avant-garde performance. (Internet - General Studies HU)

THE 322: Theatre History and Culture
Critically examine major developments in theatre history, historiography, and dramatic literature. (Internet - General Studies HU)

THE 400: Focus on Film: Film Production, Part 1
Do you want to learn about digital filmmaking? Develop your creative process in Film Production Part I.

THE 403: Independent Film
Examine the independent film movement, from French New Wave to contemporary independent filmmakers. (Hybrid/Internet - General Studies HU)

THE 405: Great Performers and Directors
Explore the processes and influences of great film performers and directors.  Choose from either Spielberg/Lucas, Hitchcock, or Great Comedy Films. (Internet - General Studies HU)

THE 421: Shakespeare: Stage and Film
Examine the Bard's best through plays as written texts, stage performances, and film productions. Focuses on play reading, performance analysis, and film critique. (Internet - application in progress to satisfy a General Studies category)

THE 499: Individualized Instruction
Provides an opportunity for original study or investigation in the major or field of specialization on an individual and more autonomous basis. Neither a substitute for a catalog course nor a means of taking a catalog course on an individual basis. Requires application well in advance of regular registration with your advisor, an advisor's signature, and approval by both the instructor with whom you will work and the chair of the department offering the course.

THP 261: Introduction to Screenwriting
Learn the basics of screenwriting including conflict and resolution, plot points, and theories of three-act structure and design.

THP 311: Improvisation with Youth
Explore the techniques and theories for facilitating improvisational drama with children and youth. This class is a great resource for education majors.

THP 312: Puppetry and Children
Are you the next Jim Henson? Learn to construct and manipulate puppets and develop your performance skills. This course emphasizes educational and recreational uses of puppetry by and with children.

THP 387: Acting: TV and Film
Learn the techniques of acting for the camera in this exciting on-your-feet studio course.

THP 484: Internship
Structured practical experience following a contract or plan, supervised by faculty and practitioners.

THP 499: Individualized Instruction
