Productions MainStage Production Manual: Student Responsibilities
Workload vs. Credit vs. Studies Students should place the highest priority on their academic work. Working on a mainstage production is part of that academic workload, and so should not impede you from attending class, doing homework and turning in required papers and projects on time. If you feel unable to complete your academic work and fulfill a production obligation you have already agreed to, see your faculty supervisor (for Designers and crews), or Director (for Actors) and explain your situation. Having said that, production assignments for credit; i.e., THP 301, 317, etc. - are classroom assignments and should be weighted accordingly in your planning. Discuss your schedule with the appropriate teacher or supervisor, or your academic advisor if you foresee or are having problems achieving all the requirements expected of you by classes, including production classes. In addition, the School of Theatre and Film realizes many, if not most, students work an outside job to pay bills, rent or tuition. While we understand the need for many students to work outside school, we do not excuse missed, late or sub-par academic work, including production assignments, due to outside work obligations. If you are planning to be involved in production in a substantive way, please plan ahead and manage your time wisely. Talk to your academic advisor at 480-965-4495, or someone in the School of Theatre and Film if your outside job is conflicting with your school work. We may not be able to fix the problem, but at least you are being responsible and telling us there is a problem
