Master Electrician

Design Execution: Failure to submit a complete set of paperwork by due dates may have a negative impact on the grade in the 401 or 498 course.

  1. Obtain plan and section view from Lighting Designer.
  2. Hand count available/stock of instruments, color, templates, and other expendables, and compare hand counts to Lighting Designer’s totals.
  3. Place order for color, templates, and other expendables - order up to two extra. Place the order to ensure that it is received and prepped two days prior to hang.
  4. Order and pick up needed rental items for the production.
  5. Produce hang cards/sheets and drop list of which lights are hung in which positions.
  6. Cut color and organize in order of drop list to ensure efficient hanging of plot.
  7. Access rigging needs (booms, taildowns, side arms) - schedule time to accomplish rigging work before hang, and develop list of instruments to be in rigged positions.
  8. Make a list of questions for the Lighting Designer.
  9. Make three copies of plot, hook-up, and instrument schedule prior to the hang.
  10. Meet with the Lighting Designer to discuss rigging and timetable before the hang.
  11. Meet with light riggers and have a hands-on review of rigging and focusing procedures. Write a rigging and focusing schedule and distribute.
  12. Produce circuit plot in advance of hang.
  13. Supervise all light hanging.
  14. Supervise focus of instruments.
  15. Supply Stage Manager and board operator with an updated instrument schedule and hook-up by first Dress. This must be kept current by including any additions and deletions.
  16. Attend technical rehearsals - Solve immediate problems if they occur.
  17. Coordinate daily channel check with board operators during run of production.
  18. Strike - Coordinate strike of electrics, and return electrics to dark state.
