Faculty Feats

Faculty Feats are a great resource for everyone to quickly discover what is happening with individual Herberger College of the Arts faculty members.

Michael Switzer, Professor, Theatre, Film

2008-05-05
Michael Switzer is a professor in the ASU Herberger College School of Theatre and Film who specializes in film direction. During summer 2008, he will direct an episode of FOX television’s Prison Break in Los Angeles, Calif., where the series now is being shot.

Switzer will be joined by an intern, who also is a film and media production major within the School of Theatre and Film. The student will live and work in Los Angeles tailing Switzer for the extent of the Prison Break production, which runs four weeks and requires roughly 12-hour days for the first few weeks. To receive credit for the internship, the student will be responsible for keeping a diary of his/her experiences and turn in a paper detailing what they learned and how the experience might expect to change their own filmmaking in the future.

During the fall 2007 semester, Switzer spent about three weeks in Dallas, Texas to film two Prison Break episodes, Good Fences and Dirt Nap. On the weekends, Switzer traveled to Los Angeles to do post-production work. During the Dallas shoot, three of Switzer’s students were able to visit the set and each observed for a few days. The students did not receive credit for their time on the set, but it was a fantastic educational opportunity for them to meet film professionals, actors and bring home some interesting stories.
